Client Released to Probation 60 Days Early

The team at Kenny, Burns & McGill is pleased to announce that one of our clients has been released from jail 60 days ahead of schedule, thanks to the talented work of Attorneys Eileen Burns and Thomas Kenny.

Our client was involved in the accidental discharge of a firearm which led to the tragic death of a family member. While the client had never been in trouble with the law before and the weapon was lawfully owned, he was found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to 9-18 months of incarceration followed by three years’ probation.

This client was a primary supporter of his family, including his elderly parents and younger sibling. While in jail, he did everything within his power to show the courts that he was using this time to the best of his ability: our client took the employment opportunities offered to him and worked hard; he excelled in his anger management courses; he even sent a letter to the courts detailing his intentions for his future education and employment, known as a “release plan.”

Along with this evidence of the client’s exemplary progress while incarcerated, Attorney Kenny and Attorney Burns collected character letters from people in our clients’ life. They detailed his hardworking and peaceful past, as well as how much his current confinement was damaging the family that relied upon him.

Armed with all of this information, Attorneys Burns and Kenny presented a tight case for this client’s early release, even as the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania actively opposed against their request. In the end, our attorneys’ presentation of this client’s clear good faith effort to better himself was accepted by the judge, and our client was able to begin his period of probation a full 60 days early.

This great outcome means that this client will be able to return home to continue providing for his family, as well as properly grieve his loss. The freedom of a man who is hardworking and determined not to repeat past mistakes is a success for his entire community. His family is overjoyed to have him back.
