One of our clients can finally begin construction on their Kensington property, after our firm’s successful appeal to the Philadelphia Zoning Board of Adjustment. Attorney Tom Kenny laid out the legal framework for the zoning appeal and called on the project’s architect to speak to specific aspects of the proposed design. Mr. Kenny’s presentation to the Board was quite effective, and the Board granted the zoning appeal by a unanimous vote. The client is very excited to break ground and turn this vacant lot into brand-new housing.

The Zoning Board considers and rules on zoning appeals regarding variances and special exceptions for properties throughout Philadelphia. The full appeal process can include meeting with community members through a local Registered Community Organization (RCO), meeting with City Counsel representatives, and filing a full appeal document–including plans, photos, etc.–as well as presenting that document in front of the Zoning Board.

All businesses and organizations seeking a zoning appeal must be represented by an attorney. While individuals are not required to hire an attorney, it is usually a good idea as there are many steps to take and procedures that must be followed.
